Ultrasound Assessment During the First Trimester

This module studies the assessment of women with pregnancies in the first trimester.  It is appropriate for those working in prenatal clinics, ER, and OB Triage.  Content includes limited first trimester scan:  Confirmation of intrauterine pregnancy, Fetal number, Fetal viability, and Gestational age calculation.  Learn to differentiate between normal and abnormal markers:  intrauterine, ectopic, heterotopic, and multiple pregnancies.

Module Requirements for 8 CE credits:
1)  Log a minimum of 8 hours within the module, including practice simulation. 
2)  Take 2 (of the 5) Quizzes.  You must pass each with a minimum 94% score.
3)  Complete 1 Scenario test simulation with a minimum score of 94% in each.
4)  Download your log, print and attach in an email to RNNCEs.

Module Objectives: 
 Following completion of the Module requirements the learner will:

  • Identify the anatomy of early intrauterine pregnancy on diagrams and sonograms.
  • Recognize and differentiate between intrauterine, ectopic, heterotropic, and multiple pregnancies, including signs, symptoms, and locations
  • Describe and recognize on images the features of various types of failed pregnancy in the first trimester.
  • Describe and recognize on images embryonic abnormalities in the first trimester.
  • Describe and recognize on images normal and abnormal amniotic fluid in the first trimester.
  • Explain the sonographic features of fetal demise of the first trimester.
  • Describe and recognize on images first trimester abnormalities of the uterus and adnexa.
